Judge’s Comments
"First of all, let me say how incredibly impressed I was by the sheer amount of good work to judge. Overlay that with the critical eyes of 3 different judges and the task was a huge challenge! But a good one! I was looking for work that was unexpected. So much of Ontario territory has been painted really well over and over so different subject matter for me was number one. Next came an artists technical ability. Did they understand colour, composition and handling their chosen media? This year's winners did this in spades. But all the work in the room deserves cudos. So my congratulations go not only to the 4 winners but to ALL the painters!"
David Sharpe

"The choice made for this year's Paint Ontario winner was made clear by a factor of originality. The piece chosen was unique and well executed in design, balance, colour, and form. With a variety of textures, it generates a sense of movement and keeps the eye interested throughout its composition. It has poetic voice, and a whimsical approach to representing Ontario. The winner stood out with its strength being a paradoxical balance between simplicity and complexity There were so many great paintings exhibited this year, making it a difficult choice. Every artist chosen for this year needs to be proud of their artwork, as each one showed some serious craftsmanship and wonderful beauty."
