SUMMARY:Jim Dawe
DESCRIPTION:Wood & Metal Sculptor \n\n\nAs a child growing up and living along the shores of the Great Lakes\, I spent many hours beach-combing driftwood and rocks looking at the beauty in each piece. Later in life becoming a metal worker allowed me to bring these all together to create one of a kind pieces of art. There is beauty in nature and sometimes it just needs to be put together. \nAs a child growing up and living along the shores of the Great Lakes\, I spent many hours beach-combing driftwood and rocks looking at the beauty in each piece. Later in life becoming a metal worker allowed me to bring these all together to create one of a kind pieces of art. There is beauty in nature and sometimes it just needs to be put together. \nI like to create mixed media art that doesn’t place restrictions on you. There is something about wood and steel that seems to lend them a kind of soul.

SUMMARY:R. Jean Taylor
DESCRIPTION:Painting Demonstration – Jean begins her paintings in an abstract way to establish composition\, line\, shape and colour. then brings her work to completion by working in layers through a loose expressionist style. She is constantly adding and editing as she creates the painting. \nJean\, originally from PEI\, moved back to Ontario from North Vancouver\, BC\, in 2015. Her work has been exhibited at Paint Ontario since 2017. Jean was awarded the Paint Ontario Grand Prize in 2018 and Sponsor Choice awards in 2020\, 2021 and the Mayor’s Choice Award in 2022. \nPainting was not a priority while she attended classes at Beal and Western. Her main interests were sculpture and printmaking. Through these practices she learned the principles of design which can be applied to all art forms. \nLater her interest in painting began to develop into a more intuitive and expressionist style. “I believe my art needs to go farther than trying to produce a photo-likeness of a subject. I try to capture the essence of my subjects. This involves experimenting\, taking risks\, changing styles and evolving to find my own way of expressing and challenging myself.” \nGrand Bend artist Jean Taylor describes herself as a “tree painter.” Trees are the subject of most of her work but she continues to experiment in other areas and mediums.

SUMMARY:Denise Antaya
DESCRIPTION:Oil Painting Demonstration – \nThe everyday themes in Denise Antaya’s oil paintings combine her love of nature and her fascination with light and how it transforms an often overlooked scene. Her subjects range from season to season but almost always represent the natural environment untouched by man.\nHer process starts with an underpainting\, called a brunaille. Once she determines that everything is where it needs to be\, she adds colour. Her plein air paintings work hand in hand with her studio work\, showing the nuance of colour that photos can’t capture.\nThe landscape is a never ending source of inspiration for Antaya\, one that will never end with its ever changing moods and complications. It’s a lifetime endeavour she hopes to never master! \nPaint Ontario Grand Prize – 2016\, 2022\, 2024.\nBest Landscape IGOR – 2017\nAlmenara Art Prize – Honourable Mention – Spain\nSalmagundi Club – D. Wu & Elsie Ject-Ket Memorial Award – 2022

SUMMARY:Koen Martin
DESCRIPTION:Clay Mask Demo \nMakeup Artist • SFX • Sculpture • Fine Art \nKoen Martin is a multidisciplinary artist working in painting and sculpture. He began honing his craft in early adolescence by completing over 65 commissioned pet portraits before the age of fifteen. Koen spent five years at BealArt\, studying theory\, art history\, and diverse studio practices. In his final year\, he presented a body of work exploring robot iconography and the reclamation of nature through decay—contrasting childhood fascination with technology against darker\, reflective themes. Several works were recognized by Beal faculty and community members. Koen later attended Vancouver Film School\, expanding his practice through creature design\, sculpture\, and painting\, graduating with the highest achieving grade. He now integrates these disciplines in pursuit of a career in the visual arts. \nIn this demo\, I’ll be sculpting an original character mask/bust using Monster Clay. I’ll walk through my process from blocking in primary forms to refining details and surface texture\, while explaining my choice of tools\, such as loop tools\, rakes\, and how I use them to shape and define the piece. Throughout\, I’ll share insight into my techniques and creative decision-making.

DESCRIPTION:Digital Painting \nI am a painter who works to bring a little more brightness into each passing day. I’ve been painting diligently from the age of 12 and obtained my BFA from York University. I love traveling as it allows me to gather inspiration for my paintings. I have taught hundreds of students in my former studio in Bayfield which gave me thousands of ideas about how to do things differently.  With all of the different challenges students brought to paint\, there was constant new learning and discoveries that were made.  That is why I love mixing up styles\, genres and subject matter.  There are so many ways to make things come alive and i love to explore so many of them.   Currently I am trying to focus on my animals\, abstract series\, and a bit of Virtual Reality thrown in. \nMy largest collection was developed for the educational tech firm Desire 2 Learn and includes over 100 large scale artworks. I’m always interested in new art adventures. I have painted a Volkswagen Beetle on the NYC rooftop of the Arlo hotel\, done giant murals in Brooklyn\, London and Waterloo\, and I painted a 3D World for a music video for Avant-Folk Group Mappe Of. \nSee my newest works and see what I’m up to on my Instagram

SUMMARY:Francis Martin
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nTattoo Demo on Mother’s Day \nAt Paint Ontario\, I will demonstrate the tattooing process using practice skin.  The process is exactly the same as tattooing on a real person\, the same machines\, techniques and attention to detail\, but instead of human skin\, I will work on a latex practice skin.  As I work\, the tattoo needle leaves marks in the material\, allowing the design to gradually take shape. Visitors will be able to watch the process step by step and see how a tattoo is built from the first lines to the finished image.  This demonstration offers a close look at the craftsmanship\, precision and artistry behind tattooing. I will answer questions and talk about the process as I work. I have been tattooing professionally for seven years and enjoy sharing the art and techique with others

SUMMARY:Jeff Vola
DESCRIPTION:Portrait in Pencil – When Jeff Vola moved to Grand Bend in November\, 2021\, he had no idea his life would change as dramatically as it has. \nJeff began working with art at age three\, with the encouragement of his mother\, Beverly – a talented artist in her own right. Having put away the crayons and pencil crayons of youth\, his current art medium is graphite pencil. Because it’s always dry\, he’s able to stop and start drawing whenever the mood\, or life\, allows. \nJeff became quite well known for his drawings in Ontario about 40 years ago and displayed his art in over 20 art galleries throughout the GTA. His father\, John Vola\, was his business manager and best friend. However\, when John passed away suddenly in 1985\, so did Jeff’s love for artwork. During those long years\, everything he created was put away in a drawer. He focused on raising his family and running his sign-writing and manufacturing business in Burlington ON. Formally trained as a sign painter\, he remained in the business for over 45 years. For 35 of those years\, he successfully designed and manufactured interior and exterior signage for Loblaws. \nThen the Covid-19 pandemic ground everything and everyone. Like so many\, Jeff was laid off for three weeks to “flatten the curve”. With nothing to do\, he got some art supplies to keep himself busy. A portrait he drew of the 1960’s Batman television character\, Adam West\, received over 15\,000 likes on Facebook! This launched his art interest again\, starting him back on a road he was always meant to travel. Since January\, 2020 he has created over 1500 drawings and commissioned portraits. \nArt is now a full-time occupation\, and he’s loving every minute of it! Jeff’s inspiration comes from people’s smiles and their tears. It’s his attention to the nuances and small details in his subject’s face which has become the hallmark of his work. \nEvery artist\, no matter where they are on their artist journey\, struggles with some aspect of their passion. Jeff says that for him\, it’s getting his subject’s eyes just right. After all\, the eyes are the windows to the soul\, and his drawings bring to light that spark of life so often missing in other artists’ work. In the summer of 2025\, he’ll be offering classes at the Community Centre in Grand Bend with Teresa Marie Phillips\, also a well-known local artist. In addition\, he’s continue to have a strong internet presence with his art commissions of portraits and pets\, along with his wonderful depictions of retro television stars.

SUMMARY:Ben Annett -Ben’s Lemonaid
DESCRIPTION:Ben’s Lemonaid is Junk \n  \nI’m trying to be as green as possible while still making things\, trying to make an example of creative recycling. Under the name Ben’s Lemonaid I create naturalistic sculptures\, working with reclaimed and recycled materials. Mostly I use old aluminum siding and eavestroughs\, burned out lightbulbs and reclaimed wire. Most pieces are 100% recycled materials other than screws and fasteners\, sometimes adhesives and safety related bits when needed. I don’t add any paint. \nDemo Description:   For my demonstration I’ll be working on a large (4-5’) wall mounted fish sculpture combining a 2nd hand LED light string\, reclaimed eavestroughs\, reused light fixtures and no paint at all.  Imagine a futuristic robot fish that’s been around the pond a few times. \nhttps://www.benslemonaid.com \nhttps://www.instagram.com/benslemonaid/

SUMMARY:Suzette Terry
DESCRIPTION:Demonstration in Collage \nWatch Suzette build and work up a collage using a variety of materials. Focus on application techniques and finishes and the correct mediums for success. \nCreating florals and forests with acrylic paint and collage materials: from hand painted papers\, cut up old paintings\, Japanese papers\,  and stamped images made from linocuts and found materials. Be prepared to be creative! \nBio: Suzette is a very busy artist in the South Central Ontario art scene. She graduated from the University of Guelph in 1990 with an Honor’s Degree in Fine Art and Business. \nHaving spent her early years in the picturesque town of Fergus\, two in Kitchener\, ten in Meaford\, she returned to Port Stanley in 2023. \nAll of these places have left a mark on her work and her scope of expression. Her subjects range from the human figure to vibrant landscapes\, her mediums follow suit\, ranging from work both in oil and acrylic\, to printmaking and mixed media collages.  It is this shifting of gears from one medium to the next that spurs Suzette to new and innovative discoveries in both technique and content. \nBold\, energetic form and vibrant colour are the mark of her style. She has built on her influences: the colours of the Fauves\, the abstraction of Picasso\, and the simplicity of Matisse.  A trip to Europe with visits to seven major museums and galleries has laid the groundwork for further exciting explorations in her work; including working on large scale canvases. Subject matter ranges from Northern landscapes\, to floral still life\, abstracts and figurative imagery. \nIn addition to creating art Suzette has taught many workshops in collage\, Paint Jams\, and lectures around Central and Southern Ontario\, encouraging and inspiring other artists. \nShe is currently represented by:\nKarger Gallery\, Elora\nArts on Queen\, Beaches\, Toronto\nMarten Arts\, Bayfield\nPartial Gallery – Online\nInstagram: suzette.terry \nwww.suzetteterryartist.ca
